Ghazza (from Sweden)

Hi Everybody!

This seems like a nice forum for people who like Big Jim!
Unfortunately I have to write my entries in English because I do not speak French.

I live in Sweden with my family and began to collect Big Jim quite late.
A challenge to collect BJ is to find all the information about it.
No books or guides are available yet but i think it makes the whole thing even more exciting...

I am also a collector of Star Wars vintage 1978-1986, and paint figures for tabletop games like Warhammer Fantasy Battles and 40k.

Serious (?) start collecting: 2008-2009
Ambition of my collection: I choose to focus on things I remember from my childhood. Nostalgia is very important to me ;-)
Childhood Memory with BJ-toys: We used to play everywhere, in our garden, in rivers, in snow and in stairwells. (Lone Ranger and Action Man/Team was also represented) We always had lots of fun!
Collecting in 10 years: More fun stuff..!
My collector's motto: Collect things you really like!
Other collection: Vintage Star Wars.
First Figure: Big Jim “Agent Blue” bought in Malmö back in 1978/79.

Never will I sell: -
Want: A complete "Double Trouble" would be nice.

Best Deal: Lose Big Jim figure with Yellow/Red pants with almost complete Red Pirate dress for about 25 Swedish Kronor (about 2-3 Euro).

I visited Stockholm some years ago, but didn't notice any Big Jim over there (well ok, at the time I was not collecting them )

I intended to find some Mummin or Nils Holgersson stuff, and indeed found some Mummins. I saw some nice second hand shops in Gamla Stan though



I didn't know Big Jim made it up till Sweden. Were they very popular over there, back in the good old days ?

Big Jim was very popular in Sweden.
There are a lot of Swedish advertising material and toy catalogs.
Many of the original instructions were printed in a Swedish version and the "communication agency with Talking Radio" is available in a Swedish version ("Big Jim Telegrafist med kommunikationsradio".
BackPack "talks" 8 Different Swedish sentences).

There are very few who actually collect BJ in Sweden, that I know of.
Many like the stuff but find it difficult to find them in good condition.
I do my best to help but my knowledge is still rather limited

Nils Holgersson is a Swedish classic and he is from that part of Sweden I live in (in southern Sweden "Skåne", near Denmark) Nils Holgersson is actually a Skåne lad .

Unfortunately, there was no production of Big Jim stuff in Sweden so no "Made in Sweden" stuff exists that i know off.
"Brio" is an old Swedish toy disributor who took care of the Big Jim series in my country.
I guess that the toys are the same as those sold in Germany, only in other packages or with Swedish labels and instructions.

I'm certainly no pro when it comes to Big Jim but I am trying to find out as much as possible and the Swedish stuff can be fun to locate.
A challenge that really appeals to me.

I do not listen to Opeth but Sabaton is great!
I'm more into classic rock like Accept, Judas Priest, Kiss, AC/DC, Maiden etc and even some Punkrock like the Ramones, Clash and Green Day.
(Another Swedish band that I can recommend for you is "The Hives").
